The 'Valley Vent Sweep'

As we wrap up June, valley temperatures are steadily climbing toward the 90s and 100s. That means your home's air conditioning system is already carrying a massive workload to keep things comfortable inside. The last thing your house needs right now is a hidden appliance restriction working against it.
Enter the clothes dryer. When your exterior dryer vent line gets choked up with accumulated lint over the winter and spring, your dryer cannot exhaust hot, moist air efficiently. This forces the appliance to run incredibly hot, radiating massive amounts of heat back into your laundry room, driving up indoor humidity, and causing your AC to work double-time. Worse yet, in Utah's naturally dry climate, a packed lint line is a major household fire hazard.
The Hack: The Flexible Duct Sweep
Cleaning the little screen mesh inside the door simply isn't enough. Give your dryer a deep breath of fresh air with this quick routine:
Disconnect: Pull the dryer out from the wall and completely unplug it. Disconnect the flexible silver duct work from both the back of the machine and the wall wall socket.
Vacuum the Core: Use your vacuum's narrow crevice attachment to reach deep into the internal lint trap slot of the dryer itself.
The Drill Brush Hack: Grab a cheap, flexible dryer vent brush kit from the hardware store. Attach it to your household power drill, feed it into the wall duct line, and spin it slowly while pulling it backward. You will be absolutely amazed (and slightly terrified) by the literal mountains of compressed felt and lint that come tumbling out of the line.
Your clothes will dry twice as fast, your laundry room will stay cool, and your electric bill will thank you!
