The "Stale Air" Refresh

If you’ve lived in the valley for more than a week, you know the drill: the fog rolls in, the mountains disappear, and the air inside your house starts to feel as heavy as the air outside.

Since we can’t open the windows to "air out" the house when the AQI is in the orange, we have to create our own fresh atmosphere.

The "Wasatch Winter" Blend

This recipe uses ingredients that thrive in Utah or are easily found at local spots like Harmons or the Sugar House Natural Grocers.

  • Fresh Sage & Rosemary: Both grow like weeds in Utah gardens and are known for their "clearing" herbal scents.

  • Eucalyptus or Pine Sprigs: Grab a small clipping from your yard (if you have a pine/juniper) to bring that "mountain air" inside.

  • Lemon Slices: To cut through the heaviness.

  • A pinch of Sea Salt: Legend has it this helps "scrub" the vibe of the room, but practically, it just feels very Great Salt Lake.

The SLC Twist: The "Natural Humidifier"

Our air is notoriously dry, especially when the heater is running 24/7 to fight the valley chill.

  1. The Hack: Instead of a tiny saucepan, use your slow cooker (Crockpot).

  2. Fill it with water and your "Wasatch Blend."

  3. Leave the lid off and set it to Low.

  4. This acts as a beautiful, scent-throwing humidifier that lasts all day without you having to watch a boiling pot on the stove.

Local Pro-Tip:

If you’re out of supplies, swing by the bulk bins at Natural Grocers or Black Cherry Market (on 900 E) to grab just a few cinnamon sticks or dried herbs for pennies. It’s cheaper than a candle and way better for our local air quality than burning anything!
