Two weeks ago, we refreshed the air. Last week, we survived the mud. This week, it’s time to actually look out the window and see the sunshine—without the filter of winter grime.
If you’ve opened your windows lately only to find a graveyard of salt, dust, and dead bugs in the tracks, this Hump Day Home Hack is for you.
The 10-Minute Track Deep Clean
Don’t just wipe the glass! The secret to a smooth-sliding window is in the tracks. Here is the easiest way to "reawaken" them without a pressure washer:
The Fizz Factor: Sprinkle a little baking soda into the window tracks, focusing on the corners where the gunk lives.
The Activation: Pour a small amount of white vinegar over the soda. Let it fizz for 2–3 minutes. This breaks up the hardened SLC road salt and dust.
The Scrub: Use an old toothbrush (or a pastry brush!) to agitate the grime into a slush.
The Wipe: Use a paper towel or an old rag to swipe it all away.
Why This Matters Now
In Utah, our "Fool's Spring" means we get one gorgeous day followed by three days of wind. If your tracks are dirty, that dust blows right back into your "Stale Air" refreshed home the second you crack the window.
Pro-Tip: Rub a piece of wax paper along the cleaned track afterward. The food-grade paraffin wax makes the window glide like it’s brand new.
Happy Hump Day! Now go enjoy that view.
